What Can We Do For You?
Wills
A will is a formal document that disperses your property at your death. The will gives instructions about how to distribute your real estate and personal property, and can name a guardian if you have a minor child. Some property, like joint bank accounts, retirement accounts, or life insurance proceeds, may pass outside the will, but the will covers all your other property.
Powers of Attorney
A power of attorney allows someone to conduct business and finances on your behalf. This is particularly important if you were to develop dementia or Alzheimer’s or were terribly injured in an accident. You want to pick someone you trust to not abuse the power, but to use it to your benefit should something happen to you.
Healthcare Powers of Attorney
Many people know a healthcare power of attorney as a living will. This document names someone who will make medical decisions for you if you are unable. You also can make some medical decisions ahead of time within the document, such as if you would like tube feeding or to be placed on life support. A healthcare power of attorney prevents family members from fighting over these issues. Again, you should select someone you trust to make the right decision when the time comes.
